Exciting Developments in IC Manufacturing and VLSI Design and Technology Education
The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has recently granted approval for two new courses in the realm of Integrated Circuit (IC) manufacturing and VLSI (Very Large-Scale Integration) Design and Technology. The greenlit courses include a Diploma in IC Manufacturing and a BTech/BE program specializing in Electronics with a focus on VLSI Design and Technology. Also Available | Online VLSI Courses!
The primary objective of introducing these courses is to foster the development of a skilled and market-ready talent pool within the semiconductor and display manufacturing sectors.
In a communiqué addressed to all vice-chancellors and heads of technical institutions, the AICTE emphasized the significance of aligning educational initiatives with the national agenda for the development of semiconductors and display manufacturing in India. The letter stated, "With reference to the Program for the development of semiconductors and display manufacturing ecosystem in India as approved by the Cabinet, it is pertinent that the aspirations of India to set up a semiconductor and display manufacturing ecosystem would require a market-ready talent pool in the field."
Furthermore, the communication highlighted the necessity of a clear roadmap for capacity building in the field of semiconductors and display manufacturing. The AICTE urged institutions interested in offering these courses to adhere to the conditions specified in the Approval Process Handbook (APH) for the academic year 2022-2023. Institutions meeting the eligibility criteria will be permitted to commence these courses.
The AICTE also announced that the model curriculum for both the Diploma in IC Manufacturing and the BTech/BE Electronics in VLSI Design and Technology will be published soon, providing a framework for the structured delivery of these specialized educational programs.
This initiative marks a significant step towards addressing the growing demand for skilled professionals in the semiconductor and display manufacturing sector, contributing to India's aspirations to establish a robust and self-reliant ecosystem in these critical technological domains.
